  • UN Sustainable Development Goal: November

Hello! As we head into the holiday season, I invite you to think about UN Sustainable Development Goal: Responsible Consumption and Production. Here are a few facts to consider:

    • Sustainable consumption and production are key to sustaining current and future generations
    • Our planet is running out of resources but populations are continuing to grow. If the global population reaches 9.8 billion by 2050, the equivalent of almost three planets will be required to provide the natural resources needed to sustain current lifestyles.
    • 1 BILLION meals of edible food are wasted every day
    • The material footprint per capita in high-income countries is 10 times the level of low-income countries
    • Economic and social progress over the last century is accompanied by environmental degradation that is endangering the very systems on which our future depends.
    • Transitioning to a circular economy involves designing products for longevity, repairability, and recyclability. It involves promoting practices such as reusing, refurbishing, and recycling

What can YOU do to commit to a sustainable lifestyle?

    • Stay informed
    • Consume less and reduce food and product waste
    • Choose products with lower environmental impacts (avoid plastic straws, bags, bottles)
    • Reduce carbon footprint of day-to-day activities
    • Buy from sustainable and local sources
    • Encourage businesses to adopt sustainable practices

On behalf of the Tau Psi Chapter we hope you have a safe and restful holiday season! As always, let us know if you'd like to join a meeting or volunteer. Thank you!

  • UN Sustainable Goal

The Tau Psi chapter of Sigma will highlight a UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) each month. In October, the SDG is No Poverty

We will collect items for Care Kits that will be donated to individuals experiencing homelessness. Look for donation boxes on the UNG campuses in October.

Email Dr. Deidre Harp (deidre.harp@ung.edu) if you can help by assembling kits, collecting donations, or distributing kits to the community.  Thank you!

  • UN Sustainable Goals: Tau Psi Task Force

  • Welcome to the new fiscal year!

Hi Sigma members and welcome to the new 2025-2026 fiscal year! Our leadership team does not meet during the summer but we are excited about the fall/winter plans we have in store. We had our first meeting this week and have some great ideas on the horizon.

In October, we plan to join the Walk to End Alzheimer's event again for the third year in a row.

The Sigma Biennium Convention is in November and although we will be attending virtually, we are excited to see what's in store for the new biennium.

In December, we will support our UNG nursing students by hosting the annual Hot Chocolate Bar event.

We will begin coordinating a one-day research conference and will keep you updated on our progress.

Finally, our Chapter has formed a task force to address the Sigma-UN Sustainable Goals commitment. This is something I feel strongly about and I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas. More information can be found here: https://www.sigmanursing.org/connect-engage/our-global-impact/sigma-and-the-united-nations.

If you are interested in joining our leadership team, attending one of our monthly meetings, or helping out with events please email me (deidre.harp@ung.edu). I'll keep you updated with details as we get them.

Remember, if we all do a little, together we can do a lot. Thank you for being a Sigma member!

    Dr. Deidre Harp

  • 2025 Induction Ceremony

Congratulations to our 41 new Sigma members and thank you to our keynote speaker, Dr. Bibb!
Dr. Sandra C. Garmon Bibb, DNSc, RN, FFNMRCSI, FAAN, is the 35th president of STTI. Dr. Bibb shared that as a new graduate nurse her job options were limited, but now the world is open for new nurses. She encouraged the inductees to follow the Sigma organizational call to action to Represent ourselves, our individuality, and shared contributions to the nursing profession. Thank you to all those who helped make the night a success.
  • Annual elections

Hi members, we will have open vacancies on the Tau Psi leadership team this spring. Please let me know if you are interested in the following roles: president, UNG vice president, or UNG academic counselor (induction co-coordinator).

  • Happy New Year!

Hi Tau Psi Members, we hope your new year is off to a great start! We had our first leadership meeting of the year today and are looking forward to finishing the fiscal year out strong.

If you'd like to attend one of our leadership meetings or join our leadership team, we will meet again on the third Monday of the month in February, March, and April at 3:15 PM. We don't meet May-July but do respond to emails year-round.

Our annual induction ceremony will be held in Dahlonega this year on 3/25/25 at 6:30 PM. We have the privilege of hearing from Dr. Sandra Bibb as our keynote speaker! If you can lend a hand we have several volunteer opportunities, please email me.

Let us hear from you! Did you earn a degree, receive a certification, get published, or experience something inspiring? If you have something to share about yourself or another nurse let us know so we can share it on our website and FB page.

Thank you for being a member of Sigma, we appreciate you. I hope you are taking advantage of all the benefits Sigma has to offer. Let us know how we can best serve you and our communities.
